Fortinet's FortiGate firewalls run FortiOS on Fortinet's own security processors, which is why they post high throughput for their size. The range runs from the desktop FortiGate 30G to chassis systems for carriers, and every model is configured the same way.
- The same FortiOS runs on every model, so a branch unit and a data-centre unit are managed alike.
- FortiGuard subscriptions add IPS, web filtering, anti-malware and sandboxing, sold as bundles by term.
- SD-WAN is part of FortiOS, with no separate licence.

What is the difference between FortiGate F and G models?
The letter is the hardware generation. G models are newer than F models and, as the tables on this page show, are generally faster at the same size. Fortinet sells both at present.

Fortinet sells subscription bundles such as Advanced Threat Protection, Unified Threat Protection and Enterprise Protection, each adding more services. We explain what each one includes and quote the term you want.
Can you renew the licence on a FortiGate we already own?
Yes. Send us the model and serial number and we will quote the renewal, and check whether the unit is still within Fortinet's support life.
